【影片简介】： 1940年，德军入侵法国，一个法国家庭里只有老人和他的侄女，后来住进一个德国军官，名叫凡尔奈·封·艾勃雷纳克。他在战前是个知识渊博的音乐家，本性善良，为法国文化感到骄傲，真诚地相信德国可以与法国合作。在长达半年的时间里，他始终用微笑面对房东的沉默，但老人对他不无好感，而侄女和他更是互有爱意。但是他的同伴们根本不尊重法国文化，对他的浪漫幻想大肆嘲笑，他为此感到十分痛苦，只求到前线去一死了之。他在与房东侄女告别的时候，与平时的沉默惟一不同之处，是相互说了一声“再见”。这个德国军官尽管彬彬有礼，但无论如何毕竟是敌人，是占领者。出于法国人的自尊，老人和侄女对他始终保持沉默，这种沉默不是意气用事，而是出于对祖国的无比热爱，因而像大海一样深沉，任何感情都无法动摇。

In a small town in occupied France in 1941, the German officer, Werner Von
Ebrennac is billeted in the house of the uncle and his niece. The uncle and
niece refuse to speak to him, but each evening the officer warms himself by
the fire and talks of his country, his music, and his idealistic views of
the relationship between France and Germany. That is, until he visits Paris
and discovers what is really going on...
